cam comparison chart.

Great to be able to see the differences in a bar graph format as opposed to trying to visualise from a table of figures; I liked that.
My Kent TH6 cam is obviously pretty fierce for a street car, but some of the Herald cams are tiny; makes you wonder if the figure quoted is lift at the cam, without the multiplication of the rocker ratio to give the valve lift.
I assume he is working in the same units?

Anyway, an interesting site, thanks for posting the link!

how do you like that cam? tell me more about your car. that cam is on my top 3 list that i am looking at. what rpm does it start at and do you have 89mm pistons? it appears to be EXACTLY the same as revington's cams. actually all the revington cams look like they are kent cams. does anyone know for sure?

Rob, I ordered mine through Fred McEachern at British Auto Sport, where I get all my stuff. He has recently moved but his number is 1-888-485-2277.
I ordered it from the Triumphtune catalogue, but it came in a Kent box, obviously a small company doesn't have the resources to develop all their own stuff, possibly some of their stuff is from Piper, another large supplier of cams for English cars.
My engine has only 86mm pistons, I will send you a private message with more details.

Hmmm. It's nice to see a graphic representation, but IMHO that chart would sure be more useful if it grouped cams by engine type, rather than lumping everything under the Triumph banner all together! It would also be nice to see the stock cam parameters listed, for better comparison. And, there are a number of grinds not listed, at least for TR4.

i know there are lots of cams missing but i found the site and just wanted to share /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grouphug.gif. i'd like a sort by duration, including: elgin cams,"d","e" etc cams,isky cams and any others you can think of. Darryl(ractorations) doesn't share his numbers (i don't blame him- they are his own). if you ask -cambridge will give numbers.

Rob, I was not able to use the link on your profile to send you a private message, so I'll bore everyone with the abridged version of the info I tried to send!

The car has 86mm pistons and stock bottom end so far as I know. The engine was rebuilt in the 1970,s by a previous owner with an unknown cam and some cylider head work.(That's the engine, not the previous owner!)
The new TH6 cam idles at 1200rpm, is asleep under 2000rpm, but pulls stronger and stronger from that point without any sudden steps in the power.
I originally used the car for track events as well as street driving and chose the modifications to suit this dual purpose, and to fit my budget.
I would suggest you need a good compression ratio to get decent low rpm performance from the cam but it would work very well for Solo 1 or track days. For road use you might want slightly less duration, especially if you have to drive in traffic much.
I suspect that retaining the 1.75 inch SUs (I have 4 sets of needles) because of budget reasons has helped my car stay tractable enough to be an enjoyable road car, I would guess that Webers might make it fussy at lower engine speeds, but have not tried this so cannot say for sure.
I also have oversize valves, which was a mod. done by itself, and which didn't seem to make any difference.
