Cam bushing Help

Just found this site, looks like a TON of info here. Wondering if anybody can help me out. I am currently restoring a 62 Austin Healey Sprite MKII.....Before taking on this project I did some digging around to see what parts aval were like. I found Moss Motors to have just about everything I need, untill last week. I am going together with the engine (full re-build) and I got to the part where I install the cam bushings. Two out of the three bushings supplied by Moss dont fit, the ID of the cam bore is smaller than the OD of the bushings. I ordered BOTH sets of cam bushings that Moss says it "must" be, but even still Im finding myself w/ no luck. I have used Moss' tech line which has turned me sour twards them (They tell me I'm installing the bushings wrong). I've been building Mack engines for the last 8 yrs, I think I have a clue on how to install bushings, thank you very much). I've gotten all the #'s that I can find on my MKII. The only stampings I can find are 62638 with no prefix in front as Moss says there should be, the letters MOWOG are cast into the block, as well as 950 (which I can presume is a 948 engine, as all the other parts are correct) I have used Moss' web site to search for other related makes/models hoping to find some other type of 948 that may have been used in a MG or something to that effect, but have also come up empty handed. Any help would be great as I REALLY want to get this project up and running before the snow flies!!!!!!!!! Many thanks in advance.
 
There's a noteworthy British parts supplier outside Stockton, California who's name escapes me, but was started by Norman Nock.

I'd be very surprised if they couldn't help you.

Now, I'm very vaguely remembering an engine that the cam ran in the cast-iron block without bearings, but I'm thinking that was the Triumph 1500 (used in later Spridgets)...
 
Which 948 engine do you have? There were 2, 9C and 9CG. 9c engine had only 1 cam bearing rest ran in the block. 9CG had full compliemt of bearings.

How can I tell which engine I have? Ive just gone by the (948) MKII etc..when ordering parts. How on earth could the cam run in the cast block w/ out a bearing?
 
I recall that we had cam bearing fit up problems when my BJ7 engine was rebuilt. A part problem was that when one of the bearings was pressed in there was a significant lip where the bearing was split. I was told this but did not see the problem. Moss sent a replacement without charge. The engine rebuilder also said the cam bearing fit up was not straight forward. He said that the bores in the block varied and most parts were essentially a custom adjust/fit process. I don't know if he modified the bearings somehow. I suggest talking to a nearby engine rebuilder with a good reputation.

You may get a better answer down in the Spridget Forum. Even thought the Sprite is an Austin Healey, there are so many members, they made a seperate forum for them. Oh, and welcome to the forum!
