So my wife Carla is a college student and needs to record some interviews with people. She has a Lenovo laptop. Is there any way to use that to record directly onto a DVD? Otherwise, I guess we'll need to buy a small recorder. Thanks.

Does she want just audio, or audio and video?
Either way, you'll probably wind up wanting to buy either an external microphone or a camera. Many laptops have them built in, but would be awkward to use for an interview, IMO. But that will still probably be a lot cheaper than buying a stand-alone recorder.

Don...this computer has windows 8. Your link doesn't cover that and the search for "sound recorder" didn't show it installed. Don't know what to do next.

I figured it out...works GREAT !! Thanks Don.

Just remember that sound recorder has a 60 second record limit. If you haven't read the bottom of Don's link, check it out for work-arounds.

Actually, when we tried it out there appears to be no time limit with Windows 8. It was working well past a minute.
