Calif "vehicle abatement " whats a collector car ?

Re: Calif "vehicle abatement " whats a collector car ?

If I have to move them I will , but putting them in public storage is just leaving them open to steal things from them ,

I would rather work on the "its my house and its legal if out of public view"

But if that does not fly then I will have to move them or sell them , not what you want to do with cars you have collected for years /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif

When we were in the Army & moving all around, I rented those little storage buildings at different places & tucked some of my MG's in them until I could get to a place where they could all come home...

But, I agree with the "its my place & I'm not violating state law" approach!

Re: Calif "vehicle abatement " whats a collector c

UPDATE:

well city guy came out last Friday ,
He was happy to see some progress and gave my a 90 extension ,

but he still says I can have no non running cars or any auto parts in the backyard,

So the battle is just delayed , and I will have to find out what the "law" says

Not in the BACK yard either? That doesn't make sense to me. Especially parts. Where the heck are you supposed to keep spare parts, and who are "they" to say you can't own spare parts for your car? I detect a serious breech of freedom here.

Re: Calif "vehicle abatement " whats a collector c

Sounds like this guy has "gone personal" & isn't going to lose regardless....have you talked with a lawyer yet? One who speciliazes in this sort of thing?

*expletive deleted* California...

Re: Calif "vehicle abatement " whats a collector c

Yeah, I know. I just needed an excuse to vent about the place in general.

Re: Calif "vehicle abatement " whats a collector c

Just remember it could be worse. He could live in california with a strict HOA neighborhood.

If you have the room have you considered getting a shed or an old 20' shipping container to store stuff in? Check with the city and see whats allowed and if you need to pull permits for a "shed"

Re: Calif "vehicle abatement " whats a collector c

Max size for a shed is 120 sq feet, so no storage container ,
plus they do not want my box trailer to be seen from the street,

please understand this is a "low rent" city, probably 50% or more latino, its not Beverly Hills.

Yes the no parts rule is stupid , I have not given up the fight , I just need to choose my battles and have some laws on my side,

But this can happen to any of you , your and my idea of whats a restoration project is not the same as the suits at city hall driving city owned cars.

anyway always open to suggestions.....

thanks

Ummm, how about stacking them, and claiming its art??

Okay, maybe not. I had the same problem with our city
health inspector, I built a solid 5'11" fence,(as a 6'
fence requires a permit), which can't be seen over by
the inspector. If he does go behind the fence, he is
trespassing...

Nope they are considered police , if they cannot get in they can go to court and get a search warrent.

I can only "win" this by finding laws which say I can do this , and even when I do that they say the city laws trump state laws....

Here in South Carolina it's legal to have as many cars as you want around the yard as long as 90 percent of them are up on cinder blocks.
Around here, the more junk cars you have in your front yard...
The higher your social status /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif
