Calif "vehicle abatement " whats a collector car ?

Re: Calif "vehicle abatement " whats a collector c

The city did not like those canopys , at least out in front ,
Costco has the best deal on the good ones with 4 posts per side,
but at Costco they are a seasonal item for spring-summer out here in So Cal

Re: Calif "vehicle abatement " whats a collector c

I thought all you guys had was spring-summer!

Screw the city - what can they do if you move it ever so ofter?

Re: Calif "vehicle abatement " whats a collector c

no no no... the 2 seasons we have in SoCal are fire and rain... although the rain season is up for debate from my experience /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Re: Calif "vehicle abatement " whats a collector c

in California everyone pays $1 every time you pay yearly registration, for " vehicle abatement" of "junk" cars

then the state hands out the money to the cities to enforce it ,

they can take your car and crush it if you tell them to "screw off"
its pretty scary if you happen to be out of town or on vacation !

Re: Calif "vehicle abatement " whats a collector c

Up here (Northern Calif.),they have to tag the vehicle,
& send a registered letter to owner before it can be towed.

same here but in So Cal , but if you are not home and do nothing I think they only give you 15 days,

I am still working on what they can legally do

Re: Calif "vehicle abatement " whats a collector c

Here in South Carolina it's legal to have as many cars as you want around the yard as long as 90 percent of them are up on cinder blocks.

No, no...the 'fridges have to be on the porch if you have a house; stacked out by the tongue if you have a trailer.....& at least one of them has to be used as a dog house! Or one of the old cars can be used as a dog house/run (you tie his chain to a bumper)!

This is begining to sound like a Foxworthy routine!!! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif

Re: Calif "vehicle abatement " whats a collector c

Why not put the car up on old fridges? Then you don't have the hassle of dragging yourself out and up to go get a beer.

Re: Calif "vehicle abatement " whats a collector c

sorry we have no old fridges here , they go down to Mexico with the garage doors !

Would I have these problems if we collected pianos ?

always seems there are tons of laws concerning what you can do with your car on your own property but not many laws about other things

a line of cactus would make a nice fence !

But unless you want it everywhere, put something metal underground to keep the roots captive!

Boy that's for sure - Plant a small bit of it and it grows like the blob - slow, but veracious. Getting rid of it is just as bad.

Plant it in a refrigerator

Well, it is something you can bury underground!

Re: Calif "vehicle abatement " whats a collector car ?

UPDATE,,,,,I talked with the city guy and he basically said you cannot have any cars or car parts in your yard ,
I told him about the California Vehicle code section 5051-5052 and he did not care .

He is coming out tomarrow to see what progress we made , and then he will decide,
Well we moved a few cars away , and cleaned up the areas you can see from the street , but I do not think that is going to be good enough for him after what he said on the phone today,

Not sure what we can do , I am not sure if his supervisor will be better , (it would be hard to be worse)

And its too much $$$ to hire a lawyer to fight it

I think we are screwed !

Re: Calif "vehicle abatement " whats a collector car ?

O.K. do you have a trailer? (Could you borrow one for a little bit?) We keep our pop up camper at a storage facility that is a little ways from the house. Our space is actually long enough to back in a car trailer and our pop-up camper. I could easily park a MGB and the trailer with the midget there. It costs $36.00 a month. Load the cars on the trailer, cover it well, and pay for three or four months. Let the air clear, the city checks it out (all clear) and then gradually bring it back. Maybe use the time to erect some "carports" and storage sheds like the ones dicussed earlier to put them in when you bring them back. Out of site/out of mind /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif
