Buying a Sprite

I'm thinking about it. I have other sports cars, but I like Austin Healeys and Sprites, and all MGs.

I hear that the Sprite MK II is virtually identical to an MG Midget.

I'd like to hear some opinions and views about buying a Sprite MK II. Would an MG Midget be a safer bet?

The cars are virtually identical. Just some minor trim differences. The Sprite came first.
Badge engineering at it's best.
The cars are an absoulute ball to drive. I've several to choose from, but my favorite is my '65 Sprite.

The one that is most characteristic is the Bugeye...

As mentioned above, Sprite and Midget are the same car, with a few trim differences. I've a preference for the '65 and earlier cars. Bugeye's tend to be quite a bit more expensive -- but the driving experience should be very similar. The side-screen cars (Bugeye, Sprite Mk2 and Midget Mk1) have a bit more elbow room.

One of the best smiles-per-dollar available!

isn't a '65 a Mark III? if we open it up for nominations I would pick the '67 with the convertible top, but still the old-pre safety dash. If it still has the original motor it has a better crank (nitrided) too.

They all have their charms. As far as Sprite v. Midget, all the same except trim, would go for the best car or deal I could get.

Biggest drawback to having a Sprite is the great unwashed masses referring to it as an MG all the time.

'65 is a Mk3 Sprite, Mk2 Midget.

A BE is my first choice but from a "looks" standpoint I like the round wheel arch spridgets (1970-1974) better than the square arched versions.
