This has been doing the rounds on the Waterford Hills forum for a few days... crazy, rookie racing drivers!

I was seventh

And no, the stewards wouldn't sign off on his license!

I wanted to slap that official myself!

As a grid official myself, I can assure you she’s not in the wrong. Yes, Grid put him in the wrong spot, or maybe timing and scoring screwed up the sheets that grid works off, that we don’t know. Either way, if the driver knows something is wrong he should get grid’s attention asap. It looks like the driver decided to let the other guy go and then intended to pull out behind him, but this was obviously not communicated to Grid, who has 72 other cars to look out for, and once those other cars start moving… well you get the picture. In that situation Grid has a split second to make a decision, and it could be both dangerous and confusing to others if they chop and change their minds;

The interesting thing here is that he was not black flagged before the start or soon after, they let him race and then chastised him. That’s very odd. 63 passes under a double yellow is impossible to miss!

Other points… the rookie is competing in his second race ever, I’m betting his drivers school was not far behind him… which means he would have just read the rule book, and attended a two day classroom session before even hitting the track, he should be fully up to date with what the flags mean and more than anything, he should have been painfully aware of what to do if he had a problem on grid or with t & s… you run your race and then make a formal complaint to the chief steward for review. You don’t decide what it is you’re going to do on grid, you’re not in charge, grid is – and they need to know if you have an issue.

Ok ok, I’m getting off the soapbox now. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hammer.gif

When I said jerk I was talking about the driver (and he thought it would be cool to show a video of himself acting like a jerk). I don't think the grid worker was to blame, how were they supposed to know why he pointed the other car by.

I also am completely amazed that he was not black flagged and I am sure he would have been if it happened at any of the tracks I've been to.

Yup, I figured that. Even though I work grid at Waterford Hills, I still find that video funny!

You know, I can't believe he let that video get out.
And I can't figure out why they didn't black flag him with all that pace lap passing. We would have called him in for a little "time out" at very least.
Love that track...great place.

Wow that guys is a jerk. I loved him screaming I'm 7 over and over again. He should have been black flag right off.

All I could think of is "this guy is going to get someone killed."

I bet after that race, all the people who had disconnected their horns for racing in modified classes reinstalled them!

I have no idea what was happening or what the gesture was, I just saw an official intentionally holding him back until last. I see now what happened, and I was as shocked as anyone that he actually passed cars on the pace lap!

I was on pins waiting for the crash. they should have done more than "not signing off his novice licence", Like take his licence and tell him he could have it back when he quit using his posterior for a helmet.

I felt a little sorry for him until he started passing on the pace lap. Then after his sterling performance there, all I could think was what a tool. He shouldn't be allowed out with anything more powerful that a robin reliant. detuned.
