Well, finally started bathroom renos today. We have needed to re-do our main bathroom since we moved in - but then this summer the shower in the apartment started leaking into the garage below. Of course I should have done this months ago, I keep meaning to join the procrastinators club too. Anyway, tenant is gone for a few days so, ripped out the shower and the walls and the floor. Everywhere I went, it just got worse and worse - walls damaged and poorly repaired. (the house is 60 years old) So, we are pretty much back to the studs, tomorrow will insulate (none at all!) and start rebuilding. BTW the house & apartment used to have hot water heat. The only room left with a rad was the bathroom. Was walking out the door and a fellow drove by looking for scrap metal - waved him over, he gave me a hand and got it into his truck. At least 200lbs so I could not have carried it by myself. Anyway, progress but I am pooped and sore.

What wallcovering brand,who did you order it from?
 
Must be contagious. Did the shower a while ago, now into walls and plumbing. ugh.
 
Well, I had hoped to be further - but we had company this afternoon. Spent about 3 hours tonight - got all the walls down - all the nails pulled (hundreds! literally on every three inches or so) and clean and ready to start rebuilding tomorrow. Had bought one of these earlier in the year https://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/bro...V+Lithium-Ion+Multi-Crafter+Set.jsp?locale=en what a treat it was tonight. I left the ceiling up and there was metal lathe under the old plaster that had to be cut - cut it clean and smooth, like butter really! highly recommended. (I bought it also because it apparently easily strips undercoat but don't tell SWMBO :nonono: Spent the best part of $1000 on what? amazing. Anyway, hopefully pics tomorrow.
 
great tool, I have a corded one from Princess auto and at work I sell the b&d, porter cable and bosch. How long does the battery last?

I have one of those too (different brand, same tool). It has come in so handy so many times I wonder how I ever managed all those years without it!
 
I only know Mastercraft as a great ski boat. Didn't think they were into battery operated tools. :smirk:
 
I know what you are going through JP I redid ours last year. Ripped out the tub, tore the walls back to the studs,put and replaced all the drywall with the recommended stuff, tiled all the walls and ceiling and now have a full length shower. Who ever has a bath any more.

Full agreement, Will! Did the same thing. Cut the tub in two with a cutting wheel onna grinder. YAY!!! Laid down a membrane on a good mud bed, used cement board for the walls, tiled it all up. SHOWER!! Now the greenboard must go up on the rest of the wall studs, after I finish plumbing up the necessity and vanity.

I went in to fix a small problem with the tile in the master bathroom of my daughter's house. I was going to remove and replace grout due to a crak and some staining from spilled nail polish. Discovered many of the tiles were not stuck so I started taking them up. One right next to a crack (part of the original problem) was stuck and wouldn't come up. Finally, I decided to get on with it and broke that tile. Now I get to remove all the tile and do it over because it can't be matched. I've never done tile. This is going to be a great Christmas.
 
Piece of cake Bill, take your time and use the correct stuff.
Don't use mastic for wet areas
 
So, did I mention that this is all supposed to be ready tomorrow? Yup. really. Before & after.

That shower is so small, I couldn't change my mind in there
