Busted Toes, that is.

Before I went to the St. Patrick's Day parade yesterday, I was moving some stuff at home and dropped a heavy wooden beam on both my feet.
It hurt a bit, but I figured I just has some bruising and brushed it off.
But after the parade, both of my big toes were throbbing like crazy and <span style="text-decoration: underline">very</span> purple.
So I went to the emergency room at our local hospital.

Result?

Big toe on right foot is broken in <span style="text-decoration: underline">three</span> places.

Big toe on left foot is broken in <span style="text-decoration: underline">sixteen</span> places (yes.......<span style="font-weight: bold">16</span>).

I am almost recovered from my broken rib I got in the karting incident.

Now it seems I'll have another 6 weeks of recovery from this (wearing two large "ski-boots".

Oh joy. Hope this is the end of broken bones for 2012! (ps-despite this, the parade was great)

Terrible news! Sorry to hear about another trouble. Sixteen pieces, YIKES! :eeek: Get well soon! [And stay well.]

Oh man, I feel your pain!

I did something similar several years ago. I picked up the wheel assembly for one of my Jag's front wheels. I picked it up by grasping the brake rotor. I thought the nut was on the axel stub to hold it all together but about the time I got it chest-high, the hub assembly separated from the rotor and - well, lets just say that the neighbors at the opposite end of the street even knew I was home when the hub landed on my big toe! Mine was only one toe and not as bad as yours (only one break and my nail eventually fell off). Makes me grimace just thinking about it! Hope it heals soon - and properly!

Wow! do feel better. (I kicked a step last August) and the toenail is almost back to normal and it only hurts occasionally) so I understand at least a piece of the nuisance of all this.

Do I see a pair of Steel-toe boots in your future? Some of the new composite ones seem like you're just wearing regular shoes.
Heal soon my friend. There's no snow this year to use any ski boots on.

How does one break a toe in 16 places? There ain't that many "places" on a toe!

That's an impressive break tally, Nial. Yikes! :eeek:

Dropped a sheet of plywood (on edge) on my foot when I was in college. They didn't X-ray it, but it's obvious now that I broke it as I healed a bit crooked. Ah well...

Take it easy, my friend. Driving/racing season is coming up soon, you don't want to miss it!

I agree with Bill. I would see an orthopod first thing Monday. ER's aren't always right.

Good grief man!

I did something similar many years ago when I picked up a box containing a cylinder head for a 283 small block. Didn't realize that it had been opened and smashed 2 toes.

Having <span style="font-style: italic">one</span> foot bashed was bad enough. I can't imagine having both at once.

Good luck.

Uh Oh! Bushmill's Time v 2.0. C'mon, man, ya need ta finda better excuse fer tippin' a wee dram than breakin bones!

He's just being competitive - he figures no one can beat that record!

Thanks all.....I have a 9:00 AM appt with my podiatrist tomorrow.

The emergency doc described the toe as "totally shattered". But to be honest, 16 breaks sounds like some sort of record to me too.

I'm walking slow but can get around OK. It hurts a fair amount, but I prefer to distract myself rather than resort to pains meds. If weather is nice tomorrow, I'll drive the MGB to the doctors......that's always a good distraction.

Dammit, man. Hobbled!

Holy toenail!
Just how big was this beam? 12 x 12?
