Burned Rotor

I've installed the MSD 6 system with my Lucas Sport coil. Been running this combination several months with good results. Not a daily driver, but extensively on weekends.

While driving recently, the engine shut off due to lack of spark. I traced it to the ignition rotor, replaced it and now I'm running fine.

Question is this: Is there a Sport Rotor available? Seriously, with the additional spark, has anyone else had this problem, and is there an aftermarket rotor with a more durable metal alloy?

I had this problem when I ran high voltage ignition coils in the late 60's and 70's. I don't know if anyone has come up with a fix but I used to go through not only rotors but distributor caps as well both on the stock distributer and a Mallory dual point distributor.
One time I was sitting at a bank teller when the engine suddenly ran real rough and backfired and quit. I had to walk to a parts store and buy another distributer cap. Then it started and ran fine.
I didn't have an MG at the time. It was on a Dodge.

Problem will reoccur...your ignition & coil don't like one another...they never will till you change one or the other - switch coils & your problem will be solved.

Ed...about the wiper switch...gotta look at one of my rubber bumper parts cars that I think has a switch in it to see aht year it is...haven't answered all of y'day's emails yet...

How many miles did you have on the rotor/coil combo before it failed?

Just curious - thanks

1000 miles give or take on the MSD. The rotor wasn't new but maybe 5000 miles on it and the coil.

I agree with Tony. The coil I was running in the 60's was a 60,000 volt transistor ignition special. You only need around 30,000 volts to properly fire spark plugs and the parts involved will last longer.
