it ~might~ be ok, if the baggies were water tight...

Looks like that last photo answers the question of whether the bags are water tight. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/sick.gif

yup... I reckon the rust stains up high on the walls weren't just from the girders they had it sitting on...

would exhumation be better? /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif

after looking at a few of those pictures... I certainly hope that tank of gas is no longer pressurized.

From what I read, there was NO gas in the tank. They put a five gallon gas can in the vault just in case gas wasn't used in cars anymore. Of course, that stuff has little chance of being any good. No Sta-bil back then. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif

BTW, at 6:30 CDT, there will be live streaming video at www.kotv.com/

maybe next time they'll use Tuperware(TM) /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

Here's an AP link to more info and a video of them lowereing it onto a flatbed.

I don't think it's toast. Most of all you see is mud. I think it will clean up pretty good. It won't drive away too easily, and I'm sure there is going to be some definite rust issues, but once they hose it off, it will probably look presentable. I may be totally wrong, but I'm optimistic about this. Besides that, the person or their heirs that guessed closest to the current population of Tulsa is going to be presented with that car. Isn't that exciting. The interior...well, that's a whole different issue. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/sick.gif

It's getting close to SHOW TIME... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/banana.gif

I understand that the Belvedere was also coated in Cosmoline before interment. I've worked with old suspension pieces coated with this stuff from the factory, and they're usually in okay shape-this on Midwestern salt exposed cars. This may have helped preserve the metal some. I bet you they'll show this on the evening news.

I read in another forum that Tulsa, while being "dry", is prone to flooding, rather like a Texas flood. This probably caused the flooding.

I was reading on yet another forum (different from the one mentioned above) and I'm surprised at the number of people who are either A.) upset at the percieved waste of time and money, B.) whining that the car was "a piece of junk" then and is moreso now, or C.) going "I could've done a better job than those bozos". I realize that some people just wont "get" something like this but I was surprised to see such a concentration of them in one spot. Distressed, even.

I can't find any pics or vid of what it looks like uncovered. The suspense is killing me!!!!!!

It wasnt pretty. i finaly got the video to settle down some and run. Kinda looked like a big pile of rust.
