Bumpers finally installed....

Brosky

Great Pumpkin

Today was the day! Now I am getting ready for spring driving. That is, after the snow and rain of this weekend are gone.

And the ugly black baby buggy bumpers are gone for good as well! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

Hopefully, I can take it home tomorrow for a good cleanup and coat of wax to get ready for the new carbs in a few weeks.

Very nice.

OK Paul, my "B" is a rubber bumper car and now I'm JEALOUS!!!
Looks good, get her all wound up and maybe in the summer we can meet halfway between R.I. and Ont.

Really beautiful, Paul.

So, when's the next car show in your area? You've got a winner there.

Regards,

Some advice for those considering the proper bumper rechroming- do it. I bought a new rear after market bumper for my tr6 from Rimmer brothers a little over a year ago during a sale. It looked fine new, but I am already getting fine pit spots ALREADY. I paid about $300 for it, not a whole lot less than Brosky's rechrome. Pay they extra couple bucks.

What is the best chrome polish/treatment out there?

Roof, I would try Mothers Billet Polish. I works great on everything from chrome to carbs. SimiChrome is also supposed to be very good and either of these may make that pitting you describe go away.

Soap, I'm going with triple Strombergs, micropolished and tweaked by Jeff Palya on a Richard Good manifold. Second down on the left: https://paltech1.com/_wsn/page4.html

Dave, that would still be a bit beyond my driving range in a TR6. Sore lower back from bending over fenders for too many years.

Brit, I'll be lucky to place 2nd or even 3rd at the British Car events and the Triumph shows up here in New England. There are some really nice cars that are hiding in this area. Usually we have about 25-40 TR6's and the competition is VERY stiff. Some of these cars are immaculate. My best ever has been a 2nd and I have a few 3rd's over the years.

Thanks to all for the compliments. As Roof says, it was expensive, but worth it.

Beautiful to behold, Paul.

Nice clean lines without the rubber
bumpers and license plate.

If you ever feel the need to put a
front plate on; I still DPO Pedro's that
I removed the first week we owned Crypty.
It's yours for the asking!!

best,

d

Undoubtedly, the best looking '74 bumpers I've ever seen!

Paul,

Those are SO nice and cost SO much that you might want to consider 3M Scotchcal on the leading edge to avoid stone chips.

I use it on all of our cars and swear by it. A friend with it on his car had a brick that bounced off a truck hit his hood. The film absorbed the impact and tore slightly but his car was perfect. It has a very slight texture when applied but will save your chrome.

Dale,

I had 1/4 X 20 nuts welded in behind the holes in the center of the front bumper to allow for a quick install of the plate frame if needed (translated "if I get stopped by the police"). I do have a matching TR6 full frame that was completely plated along with these bumpers and it is ready to go on if I get a warning.

I did have two of these rare birds plated, but some nice guy in CT talked me out of one. At least I know that it has a great home and a really nice plate mounted on it.

So thank you for your generous offer, but at this time, I'm all set.

I'm hoping that it will go unnoticed as the car is really an antique at this point and I don't drive it all that much.

Peter,

Can you get me a quote on the whole car?

Just kidding. I actually had a bit of a problem with one of the bumper corners on the rear. Something wasn't lining up correctly because of the sliding nut in it's little frame was twisted and when Alan applied pressure to the bumper to twist it straight, two tiny dimples appeared in the top of the bumper where the inner frame is welded to the bumper itself.

He was sick about it and when I walked in today he couldn't apologize enough. As it turns out, I recently bought a spare rear bumper from a 74 in the event that I ever sold it (highly unlikely) or ever wanted to go back to the original look (even more unlikely). The corner is in great shape and will plate nicely, so I'll take it in to NuChrome and have it done when they get a chance.

As I told Alan, stuff happens. He was trying to get a perfect fit and alignment, matching on both sides and he did, but we had a hiccup along the way. I see a lot of things in my travels that are really sad and something like that is really small potatoes when compared to life's real problems.

Besides, while he had it on the lift, I spied a new oil leak from the brand new crankshaft seal with only 1,200 miles on it. Now that really is annoying!!!

Actually, whole car vehicle wraps are made with this stuff, only thinner. They are on all the Nascar cup cars and also on advertising "billboard" cars. I saw one at an Audi show and couldn't believe that it wasn't a custom paint job.

Just a strip on the leading edge of the bumper would do the trick. And remove it it you don't like it. To remove you pull up a corner and stretch it at a 45deg angle and pull. It removes the film and snaps off the adhesive this way.

I applied all the kits to our cars myself. It needs surgical clean to keep dust particles from getting under the film. The Audi took me several days because of the compound curves on the front end. Each time I say I'll never do it myself again, but each time I say I wouldn't have a car without it so ...

Peter,

Where do you get these kits? Auto body supply houses?

Thanks,

Peter,

Where did you find the link that says they have installers in RI?
