Bumper rechroming project begins...

Paul: Leave off the rubber bumpers, eyesores
from the original design get-go.

My PO had a horrid vanity plate and frame on the front.
One of the 1st things I removed.

Personally, I like the clean lines sans luggage rack
and sans rubber duckie bumpers.

But then I'm just an architect that knows zip
about old cars. But I betcha you could have a
removeable luggage rack fabricated and put it
on the car only when you need it. Once you get
to a show, remove it and stow it under the car
maybe. Or be REALLY creative and have it fold into
a small table for drinks or something. Morph it !!

You could do something along the lines of those strap on bike carriers. Same sort of idea but bracing a rack instead of the tubing. Actually that would be quite neat...

If I find another deck lid, I'll have it painted to match and install it on that. They're easy enough to swap out when I need it. I have the rack, so I'm in no rush. When I get the right deck lid, all will be well.

The rubber bumpers were in the plans to go from the beginning. I just decided to have the bumpers filled in after I saw just how they will do it and how meticulous they are at Nu-Chrome.

I'll take Ned's advice and use a bolt that I'll be able to get out when I need to, which shouldn't be much of an issue, since the wettest that it gets is when I wash it. Worst case scenario, I get a ticket or warning for no front plate. My inspection is good for another year and a half, so no worries there.

Alan, I may start to look for a rubber cupped rack as well, possibly at a bike shop or outdoor type shop. But there will be no hole in my original deck lid.

Now to get the bumpers done and then to convince her how much we need Dayton wire wheels.

BTW - in some states they can't pull you over for lacking a front plate. I don't know if that's the case in RI. All I know is my neighbor was just promoted to Chief of Police yesterday. I've got me a "get out of jail free" card.
