Bumper Question & checkstrap question

Bumper Question:
I had some bad luck in Newport Rhode Island this week with my 73 TR6. While pulling into a parking spot I failed to notice 1 heck of a hole which unfortunately my bumper found which caused the front bumper to crumple some. Has anyone bought a bumper from Moss or one of the other major suppliers and if so how was the quality?

Door Strap:
I am looking for anyone that has found a supplier for the part of the door checkstrap that is riveted on the door. All the catalogs I look at only show the part that is bolted/riveted to the door post. Maybe no one has them available.

As usual thanks in advanced.

Can't help you on the bumper. But the rivets and the piece they hold to your A post are available from TRF (just bought a set a few months ago). part number 603344 FYI i could not find anything to crimp the rivet with so I tack welded the inside of them to keep them in. Works great and you'd never know they were welded in.

Thanks. I'm a little confused though. I'm looking for the piece that mounts on the front of the door. It connects to the checkstrap assembly that is riveted to the A post. Is this the piece you are describing. So to be sure I am making myself clear there are 2 pieces to the checkstrap. 1 mounts to the A post and the other mounts to the door. Maybe the part number 613622 has both pieces. Hope this makes sense. Thanks

I have the same problem and have not seen a part available for the door portion of the check strap, as it is an integral part of the door. If you look inside the door you will see that the part you are describing is actually part of a place that was spot welded on.

So you will have to fabricate a new one and either weld it to the outside of the door or do a whole lot more work and attach if from the inside (which is not easy).

When the time comes, I am not sure what I will do.

So.....you're the white TR6 that was cruising Newport this week??

If you had contacted me we could have called the Pharmacist, Greenie and a few others and had a toast to BCF together.

Did this happen on Thames St by any chance?

Charles at TRF readily admits that the bumpers made over the past ten years are not the quality of the original steel factory units. They may have some used ones that are in very good condition. Call and ask for Dave and he can tell you what's available.

A really good plater can fix that bumper prior to replating, which may be the best way to go.

Also, what year is yours?

yup 613622 is what you want - But it does not come with the connecting part that is on the door itself. I dont think you can buy that one.

Yes that was my wife and I. We spent 2 days driving around Newport. The stupid hole was in a parking lot at the Middletown/Newport line. It was an end parking spot. I said oh Boy I can park on the end and have plenty of room between myself and the next car. Unfortunately part of the parking lot was washed away and I didn't realize it was as was. But the bumper did :cryin: My is a 1973. Maybe I will talk to Patty at New England Chrome Plating. That would have been cool to have a few TR's get together. I will have to remember that for next time.
