Bumper over riders on a BN1

Hello again all,
My 54 BN1 has over riders that have a finished back versus
being open like on the BT7 or BJ8's I have owned. They are
original to the car but all the photos and info I have
been able to find do not mention over riders with a finished
back - both front and rear on this car. Anyone else have
these ?
Thanks,
Mike

Mike,

I had a '53 BN1 and all 4 over riders were open in the back. Although, I'm not 100% sure they were original. My guess, they're open for all models.

Do you have pictures? Just curious what they look like.

The concours guidelines say that the back of the bumper and over riders should be painted silver, which leads me to believe that they are open. My question would be on the over riders for a BN2. On the side where the rubber goes, is the notch smooth like on a Sprite or is there a tab that fits into the groove of the bumper? Which one is correct for a BN2?

From what I understand all of the OE riders were open on the back side, painted silver on the inside and attached using two rubber isolation strips. I have all 4 on my 55 and based on the abuse, nicks and dents I think they are all OE.

Hope this helps,
Michael.

Sides have a flange part that is countourded to fit the bumpers. I attached a photo from the Orginial Austin Healey 100 book.

Hope this helps.
Michael.

On the 100 the sides of the over rider is not contoured, and similar to the Sprite Mark One. The over riders fitted to the 100-6 & 3000 were contoured to match the different, scalloped profile of the bumper bar blade.

Hey all,
Been gone with no e-mail access for the past week and will get a picture
of these over riders so y'all can see what I'm talking about. Obviously
might not be original but sure look like the came with the car. Be interested
in the feedback after I get the pics taken and posted.
Thanks,
Mike

Hey again,
Here is a shutterfly address where I posted the pictures of the bumper over riders that are on my BN1. They have been on the car since at least 1976
when the previous owner to me purchased it in California. Look good and
even if not correct, somewhat unique with the finished back. I am in the
process of restoring this BN1 and will post some newer pictures when I am
finished in a month or two.
Regards,
Mike

I have never seen any closed in the back like that, looks like aftermarket or someone did a nice job welding and replating?

They do look nice.....

Michael.
