Bullet mirror mounting

Got my new bullet mirrors from Moss last night and realized that mounting them on the door where my stock mirrors were will not work with the supplied hardware. The mirrors will be too low to see anything.

Soooo.... I am wondering how you guys have your bullet mirrors mounted. Pics appreciated of course.

Told ya - put em on the fenders

I like them on the fenders.

Fender mounted mirrors are A-OK on a Bugeye, or a Spitfire, something with tilt front end, but I never met anyone who mount mirrors on a fixed fender car that didn't regret it, they get in the way BIG TIME when working in the car's engine compartment. They look cool, but the first time you have to work under the hood, the cursing will begin

+1 for all of the above...Having the mirrors in the "traditional" American location, under the vent windows, drove me batty. I felt like I was taking my eyes too far off the road just to see behind me. (If I'm gonna have to stare at my elbow I may as well just turn my head, right??)

I ditched my door windows at the first opportunity, and got the Lucas-style wing mounts instead. No blind spots, great visibility, and you don't have to take your eyes off the road and re-focus. Yeah, it gets in the way a little when you're bodging with a spanner under the bonnet,* but it's easy enough to work around once you're used to it.

* (I've been waiting a long time to use that phrase in a sentence.)

I mounted bullit style mirrors on the doors, had to elongate the slots in the heads to get enough tilt on the right side and still I have to dip my head slightly to get a good line of sight. I do prefer the "look" when mounted in that location, but the view leaves something to be desired. Might be better with a convex glass rather than the flat mirrors in mine though.

I had to check your location, thought for sure you were posting from across the pond.

I've always wanted wing mounted just because they look period cool. Although somehow I think the Lucas style round one look more "correct" for a '63. I don't know what time frame the bullets were used, is either more likely to have been found on a '63?
Anyway, reading that you like them so much is pushing back over that way. I currently have the Harley ones mounted on the windshield frame and they are okay but the sidescreens interfere and as you say, looking so far to the side isn't very nice. I've always wondered exactly where on the fender they should go and about convex vs. normal.
Here's my motorcycle ones, since I just got the picture ready for another thread.

couldn't bring myself to drill any holes in the 62' so I mounted mirrors in the back hole of windscreen frame....

Being 6' tall I have come to the conclusion that my door mirror is for looks only. I have moved the mirror every which way to see through and have finally given up. Looks great but useless. I use my rearview mirror and crank my neck for a peak when necessary. I do a lot of driving and have found almost all of my cars have had a bad blind spot so I am kind of use to taking a backwards glance.

Here they are mounted:

I mounted them such that they are easily removable if I need to poke around under the bonnet.

They take some getting used to, but all in all I would say they are a step up from the old floppy mirrors I had. Objects in mirror are definitely as big and scary as they appear.

looks great! I bet they even make the car go faster.
