I have a question regarding the bulkhead sealer plate used on sidescreen TR's. See attached drawing. I recall that these were added some time after TR2 production. My question concerns the finish. If they were attached AFTER the body shell was received from Mulliners how were they finished. Were they painted black or did the factory spray them to match body colour?

I painted mine black, but then again, the whole car is painted black. :devilgrin: From the way I've seen them rot, I have a feeling that they never saw any paint! Other then that, I know I'm not being of any help here so I'll shut up!

The ones on mine -- original, I <span style="font-style: italic">think</span> -- were in red primer. They still are... They really are invisible, unless you're practically lying under the car.
 
I made my own out of stainless steel sheetmetal and had them painted black, like everything else on my black 1958 TR3A.

I re-designed them to extend down at the bottom to match the form of the front end of the inner sill and the steel part up top (where the rubber goes) is all one piece with the rest of it. Then I drilled and tapped 4 small holes across the top bit and made front plates out of stainless to match these 4 holes. The rubber is sandwiched between the two pieces and held with #10 screws and nuts on the back. They can be dismantled and cleaned and they won't rot like the ones held with aluminium pop-rivets. No TRA or VTR judge ever picked up on this mod.

Ditto. Mine are only red on the back now, though, as the DPO smeared black undercoating inside all the fenders.
 
Thanks for the input guys! I like the idea of black, because we will be shooting some black (drive shaft and couplings) this weekend! :banana:
