I am about to rebuild a TR6 transmission for vintage duty. I will have the J type OD. I am considering using a close ratio gear set from British frame and engine. Has anyone used this setup?

Any other bits of advice you have for imroving the durability of the transmission/OD?

thanks,

Greg

I built one in desperation when a five speed conversion was not delivered on time. It turned out great. I have countless races on overdrive cars with no problems. There is a thread about this many months back.

The weak points in a TR gearbox seem to be the countershaft and bearings and the bronze 'top-hat' 2nd gear bushing in earlier trannys. I used a 74-76 gearbox when I converted to the C/R O/D as it had the later steel bush. So how much is a set of mail-truck gears now? I could call Ken but it is easier to ask.
