Buh Bye Auto choke

Well I finally have had it with the auto choke. After having a pretty good week with the B it quit working correctly again and flooded the engine while in a parking lot. That was it time to order the manual conversion.
Turned out the manual conversion was extremely easy to install and took about 2 hours total. Engine fires right up now while cold and consistently goes to the rpm I set it to. I reset the idle settings and now she's really purring. I have a feeling the choke was sticking a little prior to converting as the idle rpm had been jumping a bit

Now someone please make the rain go away so I can enjoy tomorrow before having to return to the tundra.

'Way to go, Stew. My B came to me with manual choke and, once I re-set the cable, has worked like a charm: just like in my 1936 chevy of many years ago! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/lol.gif

Hey Stewart

What conversion kit did you use? Did it come with some instructions such as where to route it. I have a 75B with a weber conversion and the choke is not functioning and I am considering a manual.

That's great news! As I approach my restoration, I've been considering the same thing. I have a 76B, and like Brian, it has a weber conversion and auto choke. Any advice for a first-time restorer would be greatly appreciated!

I ran the cable for the choke from the radio console just above the fasten seatbelt light under the dash up through the same hole and grommet that the heater cable goes through down the left side of the fender behind the brake master then to the choke. Mine was the moss kit for converting the Stromberg. In 2 or 3 months when I take everything apart I will be moving the choke to the dash position where the earlier models have it.
