Bugeye windscreen gasket help

I hope I am not driving everyone crazy with all my questions. This is my last job of the day before I have to get back to studying. I just installed the windscreen. I am not sure what to do with the windscreen to body gasket around the wipers. Do I cut this portion off, or do I just attach the wipers over this gasket? Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated.
Kevin

LOL, you are done, that's the way it goes. Looks like a nice job in fact.

You can leave them like that and maybe squeese a little clear silicone under the seal to keep water out. My seal was'nt going to do the job in other places as well and I folded it under and tucked it in so that it would seal. Did the same on my MGA. I'm not sure we are getting the same seal or material as was used originally.
Kurt.

If you drive it in the rain that way you will get water inside.
Some people here don't take their car out if it's threatening rain, others live in it and would never get their car out if they held to that restriction.
So - like Kurt said, take precaution.

But guys, that is just the outer seal, the real water seal is inside that one.

Real seal is inside that one, Jack???? I'm at a loss! I believe that is the only one I have seen listed to seal the frame to the body but am definatly interested in a better way.
Kurt.

No no, it is all one part, that flap on the front is for the wind, in side that, same part is a round thing that pushes down on the cowl, that is the water seal.

Aha - that's the trouble Jack.
Lots of us can see daylight through there around the wiper posts.

Jack, I'm going to check that out. I may be thinking of the one on my MGA but I don't think the BE sealed up either.
Kurt.

Should not see daylight for sure. None on Miss Agatha, had a heck of at time where the seal meets the piller pads but oh well.

Whoooops!! Insert foot on my part Jack! I went and checked mine and jogged my memory. My windshield to frame gasket is old and hard and distorted. It pushed my frame forward so that the inner round gasket was'nt doing its job. Thats why I rolled the front gasket under.
Kurt.

Oh boi... The lip seal is s'posed to deflect th' water, th' "tube" is the seal. a bit of silicone sealant at the ~LIP~ will keep ya dry.

What Jack is describing is correct for my seal. There is a seal in front, but there is also one between the frame and cowl that fits over the ridge on the body. I didn't know the one in front was just for the wind. I figured the two seals were sort of like insurance if one fails. My wife had to help me apply pressure to the frame for me to be able to install it. By the way, I used the hose to see if I could get any water past the winscreen frame and was not able to do so even without the Si.

There ya go, hard to argue a whole lot with 50 or 60 year old engineering. All you got to do is figure out how it was ment to work.

That's the key how it was ment to work. Not how it works after 50 years.

Agreed.

I believe mine and some others I've heard of are not working as they were meant to for some still unknown reason.

The round inner seal doesn't meet the cowl in the middle, it's up about 1/4 inch. The outer posts are on properly and there is a new rubber gasket in place under the posts. The body seal is cut so it doesn't interfere with the posts.
The inner seal meets the cowl out at the ends but not in the middle. Is this possibly due to badly worn & shrunk windscreen gaskets - possibly the bottom of the frame is bowed up due to shrunken rubber glazing? That's the only thing I can imagine that would cause this.

Or all of the above Rick. With my luck nothing ever fits till I work on it.

If it looks ok from the outside you could always use some boat calk the old fasioned kind and push it in with a wooden stick. From the front would be best.

Yup.

Actually, a ballpoint pen outline of the wiper base on the gasket and a piece of cardboard slid under it after, cut the outline with an X-Acto knife as a relief and it'll be fine.

Just be sure not to cut thru into PAINT.
