bugeye top bows

I recently installed the soft top for my bugeye. It looks pretty good, but to get it really tight looking, the forward bar needs to be a little higher than can be achieved with the hinge mechanism in the default configuration (below)

Getting it tight requires that the bottom brace be straight, but it won't stay that way without a wedge. To solve the problem, I fabricated a couple of wedges that fit tightly into the braces and hold the bottom one straight. (below)

It's small change in the configuration, but it makes a big difference in how the top fits. I'm curious as to whether this a common problem or if my bows are somehow not "normal".

I have owned two bugeyes and never had that problem. Are the rivets loose around where you have placed the wedges?

So, do your bows stay in the straight position by themselves? Or, is your top tight with the bows in the collapsed position?

Good solution...mine is fairly tight, but not real tight and I may never put it up again since it is a fair weather car.
