So my mechanical tach just died a few days ago. Haven't dug into it to see if it's a cable, gear box, or what -- but I'm just not a fan of the mechanical tach anyways so I'm figuring on replacing it with an electronic tach. Another consideration is that at some point in the future I'll be moving to a 5-speed, so also thinking about matching speedo down the road.

So here are some options I'm thinking about:

Moss/Smiths electronic tach

I believe this fits (100mm) size, and there is a matching electronic speedo that could be used down the road. Should be easy to do, and while you loose the silver center it is a Smiths gauge and I think would fit in. I'm not too fussed about the silver center to be honest.

Bugeyeguys conversion

They'll swap in electronic guts to the original tach. Looks the most stock, but harder (maybe) to match with a new speedo down the road. I am considering contacting someone like Redline Gauges to see if they can convert my Bugeye speedo to electronic and help me figure out a speed sender (I have no interest in GPS speedo).

Any other things I should consider?
 
I have the speedo and tach from Bugeyeguy and couldn't be happier.

The only issue I have with the speedo is that I reset it when I fill with gas and can't remember to press and hold to reset trip mileage so I short press it and have to cycle thru 1/4 mile timer, 0 to 60 timer, and couple of other things that it will do. Maybe I should drive more and have to fill up with gas more frequently.

One thing I like about the Mos#$ unit is that it goes to 7K rpm where the BEG one only goes to 6K. It also has the charging light ready to go.
 
I am very happy with the electronic instruments offered by Bugeyeguys. Tach, GPS speedometer and digital fuel gauge, which are all manufactured by Speedhut with faces to replicate the original Bugeye instruments.

I went to an alternator without a tach drive, switched to a 3.7 rear diff. and replaced the fuel tank and sending unit with new ones, and I have very accurate readings from all three instruments.

The internal LED lighting is fantastic and
Speedhut’s over-the-phone customer service is second to none.
