Bugeye Steering Surround

I am rebuilding my dash. As I progress (slowly) I find that I do not have the (3) bolts (maybe bolts) that fasten the surround (Moss #233-215) to the dash. Nothing shown in the catalog either. What are they, and what size if the are bolts?
Thank You

Paul,
If you bought 6-32 x 1/4 long pan head Phillips and used a flat washer with each one you be 95% correct.
If you wanted to go with 6-32 x 1/4" Pozidriv screws (McMaster Carr # 95397A110) with a flat washer. You'd be even closer.

One possible correction; you listed a Moss number (sorry missed that) I cannot say if the moss item uses the same screw as the original part did.
Don’t be tempted to buy a longer screw if it is an original piece. The inserts in the plastic bit are not very deep. ¼” length is plenty with the flat washer.

Thank you. I have an original surround. I will make a visit to my local hardware store in the AM and see what I can find. If not I will go to my local British shop-Brooklyn's in Tacoma. Good folks and very helpful.

I'd took the surround into the hardware store and tried bolts until I found the correct pitch and thread. No idea what I ended up with.

Ooo Ooo I know this, I know what you ended up with - the correct pitch and thread. well done!

Yep. Getting the correct bolt was a walk in the park compared with trying to figure out how to mount it to my PO's wood dash so it lined up with the Moto Lita (knock off) steering wheel and allowed me to mount rig a horn push. Which still works only when it wants to and rarely when I want it to! I was just really happy the PO had the sense to put the surround in the box of "junk".

Easy for me, I walk into the garage and pick up one that still has the original fasteners in it. Cheating I know but it works every time it works! That’s why I’m certain about the length as well.

Screw, slip-ring and moulding to fascia. Original P/N PMZ0205. Revised P/N (beginning with AN5 17966) PPZ0205.

Both are Number 6 zinc plated, pan head screws 5/16" long. You also need three lock washers.

Both of the units I have had only flat washers. If you were to use lock washers the screws would need to be 5/16". Both mine have 6-32 x 1/4" pozidriv pan heads. Given the look of the washers and indents around the heads of the screws (not modern fasteners) I would say this is what came in the rings from new.
Funny thing, what the assembly line did and when has always been of interest. Did they always assemble to a print?
That’s kind of the question when you see bits a bit off from the AKD books, did they change small details for a reason? Quicker / easier to assemble? Supplier change? You can imagine the lack of documentation back then?
By the way, Guy’s with Italian cars from the 50’s & 60’s are laughing with tears right now!!

Paul,
One more thing, this is assuming your dash is been covered as it was? No padding. Padding = additional length needed.

You are correct ... flat washers not lock washers. My bad.

Sprite Service Parts List does call for 5/16" however, for what that's worth.
