Bugeye steering rack help

While Dug is rebuilding my swivel axles, I have decided to tackle the steering rack. This is the last thing I need to complete on my Bugeye before putting it back together. The steering rack was removed before I painted the body. The tie rod ends and gaiters are bad, so I am going to replace them. I want to dismantle the rest of the rack, inspect all parts, clean it up and paint everything. I am not a mechanic. Is this something I should attempt, or is this something best left to a professional? Any suggestions on how to do this or what I should do would greatly be appreciated.

The cap that retain the inner tie rods are a bugger to break free.

Keep any and all shims with the caps, note the position of the brass bottom cap under the pinion, it only fits ONE way.
As Trevor said, the inner tie rods can be tough, pry back the 3 tabs on each one, put the tack in a vice, use a pipe wrench to break it free then it's unscrew by hand.
Get a new felt seal and oil it up with 90 wt before you clamp the new boots on.
When you put the inner rods back on, just peen the 3 tabs back with a screw driver.
Also, count the turns on the outer tie rod ends, they should be 15 full turns each give or take 1/2 a turn, put the new ones back 15 turns to keep the toe in close. 10 turns on one side, 20 on the other WILL affect your steering center.
