Bugeye radio in-dash

Putting together the dash today.
My dash radio cutout was cutout years ago. There was also a hole in the right front fender/wing for an antenna, which I left.

So now I'm thinking about what radio to put in the dash. The car is finished in stock/original style which I prefer.

I have a Dual "mechless" stereo with USB and Aux inputs that will fit perfect, however, it doesn't exactly look vintage, but is a good unit.

I suppose I could look for a place to mount it other than the dash, so as to preserve the original look of the dash, but since it will have an antenna in the fender, It seems like a radio in the dash would not really detract much.

Maybe there is a good vintage look modern unit I can put in, but it seems like the "Retrosound" and other vintage style units don't fit the dash opening.

Any thoughts?

You can buy a retro radio that can be adjusted to fit any hole.

That's a pretty nice one, JP, but it doesn't get great reviews on amazon.
I'm thinking about building an enclosure for the area in front of the gear shifter. Could be removable. Then just weld a patch on the dash to close the hole.
 
If your just looking for tunes an option would be a blue tooth speaker and your phone.
i have a Bose mini that works great when I leave the car no worries about someone messing with it just take with and no holes no wire no worries.
 
Well, since I have the antenna hole and have already painted the car, I'm pretty much committed to having an antenna, so a bluetooth speaker won't do.
I'd like to find a miniaturized radio that could be mounted out of site under the dash or footwell. Otherwise I might try to construct the removable console and see how it looks.
 
I thought about putting a radio in my Bugeye, but then I wondered if I would even be able to hear it while driving with the hood down. Also I am a defensive driver in my Bugeye, so I wouldn't want the distraction. If I am at a car show and want to listen to the radio I just take the small portable radio I have with me.
As for the hole for the antenna you could put a a telescoping antenna in the hole and it would look okay I think.

Check out Crutchfield...they are one of the largest retailers of car audio in the world and have excellent tech people. You can also look at remote mounted marine radios that can hide just about anywhere.
