Bugeye Project Stalled

Hi There walshja,

I`ve seen this Bugeye on ebay before. I`ve spoken to the seller (Dave). He seems like an Honest Brit Car Lover.

He`s pretty set on the $4900 selling price. It did`nt get there the 1st. time on ebay & obviously not this time.

This time the bidding was actually less than the 1st. time he listed this one. I believe (?) it may have hit around $4300 the 1st time he listed her.

I`m trying to negotiate something with him but????

I just may be giving you a call or email to go and take a peek at this project.

Thanx, Russ

I watched the auction end last night. It didn't bring over $4k. Tho' I keep looking for good body donors, I've decided I need to save that money and use it to fix mine's body unless some super deal comes along. It's just been hard for me to find the time.

no problem, let me know, the only thing better than buying a car for yourself is buying a car for someone else !!!

John, you just have to get started. how is the rest of the car? engine ready to go? there's lots you can do before even making a decision on the body. I work at home so I go out at lunch for an hour and for the longest time just did small jobs. last night was polishing the grille pieces. I can do that for 5 minutes or an hour depending on my time, but, I accomplished something. I feel like you need to get started, find one thing to do - polish something/ paint something/ clean something. if you worry about the whole car at this point you will b paralyzed. If you get started one thing - anything, before you know it you'll be ready to either fix your body or buy one (or maybe one will have found you) either way, the engine and the brakes and the interior etc. etc. will be good to go.

My solution has been a dry erase board I put up in the garage right next to the door to the house. I use the board to organize my thoughts on projects needed to be done. Be they small little things or big projects. It's amazing how quickly the board can get filled up. Whenever I have a few minutes to spare it's out to the garage, look at the list to jog my memory and what can I get done in the next 1/2 hour to take a job off of the board. Progress is measurable and it really feels good to erase tasks off of the board.

A < $20 at WalMart way to keep the project going.

Oh and BTW, my better half keeps sneaking in there and adding "honey-do" projects on the board. Spring is getting closer, time to get busy, even if it is to order needed parts.

hide the pens

JP - I had originally planned to sort the car out mechanically and do the body later, so I had bought, boxes and boxes of new parts, hydraulics, rebuild front end, disc swap, etc. I haven't rebuilt the engine yet, but should wait 'til I tackle the body. Actually, I would much rather rebuild an engine than the body. But you're right. One little project at a time. I just need to find the time and get started.

10-15 minutes at a time will get you started. Take a look at this link on Working Smarter by Sam Buchanan. It's notes on how he was able to get a Stalker Lotus 7 Kit finished and on the road quickly. He's also built a home made Kit Plane so he's experienced in working smarter and efficiently. And BTW his build of the Stalker V-6 is an iteresting site to visit. After driving one of these cars it's thrilling to say the least and the Super Stalker with Supercharger I got a chance to ride in with the little skinny pedal pushed ot the floor was a true "Oh My God!"experience.

Take a look at this link and see how it relates to your BE Project and maybe it will help.

Great advice on that site!

Glad it helped. We just want to see you get this one going again. We're rooting for you!

John,

Here is some more inspiration. 5 Part Series on BE Restoration by a 20 y.o girl from England. The link to the first You Tube Video is

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DJwpATsIkF8

You'll need to search under the same heading for parts 2,3,4,& 5. Just had time to view part 1 this AM.

She is going to make some guy a wonderful wife.

?? $1400 for THAT? RU serious? Is that anywhere close to what that crate is worth over there? (I've only watched the first one so far). Reminds of a video history a guy from Germany (I think) was making of a custom job on a Datsun 240 he bought off ebay and brought to Europe, it was super highspeed with a great sound track and was really great to watch.

I'm new, very new to all this, but BE's fetch much greater prices than do Midgets, right?

The shell on this car, if as described by the seller, has only surface rust? I thought it impossible to find a BE which is in relatively good shape.

again, if the car is as described, it seems like the body needs to be stripped, primed and painted, with no replacing body panels, no bondo, nothing.

am I way off base? ( i think i know the answer already )

You need to watch the video.

Work the math, video states paid 1,000 pounds roughly $1400 for that pile of rust. When done all parts value estimated at 8,500 pounds or $12,371 U.S. I'd say Bugeye values are as inflated in the home country as they are in the U.S.

Great video! I just watched the first one, but will definitely watch the rest. I loved his series "An MG is Born". Thanks for turning me on to that.

Seeing her project makes me feel much, much better about mine! lol
