Bugeye license plate lamp wire help

Hello,
On my license plate lamp, there is a connection to the middle and a connection on the left side (as I am facing the rear of the car). Can someone tell me where the red and black wires go? Thanks,
Kevin

The red wire goes to the terminal that hits the bulb tips.
Black wire goes to the ground, the terminal that hits the bulb base.

Black is always ground. The cylindrical metal part of the bulb's base is always connected to ground, because it contacts the large part of the socket, which is naturally mounted to the chassis. The tip is always the "hot" terminal.
