Bugeye hand brake cable questions

I got my new hand brake cable today. It was actually about a quarter inch longer than my old one, but the tube it is adjusted with is three fourths inch longer. I was able to get the hand brake to work, but the new cable had to be adjusted almost to the end. It does not stop the wheel at three notches up as stated in my manual, but instead only locks the rear wheels three notches from the the top end. Does anyone know what the actual length of the original hand brake cable is? I had thought about trying to take in my original cable somewhere to see if they can shorten it an inch or two. Does any one know know who does this sort of thing?

The new hand brake cables today are junk. They stretch in about a week to where they are too long to do any good.
It seems that the chinese have mastered the art of making elastic steel cable.
I can still find brake cables on Ebay made by Canton which made original replacement cables back in the day.

or use a short peice of small dia pipe with a slit length wise to fit over the cable so you can get the covering back away from the rear attachment. Thus it thinks the cable is shorter.
