Bugeye grill attachment help

Hello,
I am trying to install my grill. It seemed pretty simple.I bought these rectangular fasteners that push from the opposite side to hold it in place. Do these sound like the correct hardware? They don't seem to hold real well. The biggest problem is the top stud. I have to exert a little pressure on the top most stud to install the fastener, but when I release pressure, it just pops off. Can someone give me some tips on how to install this? Are there other fasteners that will hold the grill better? Any help would greatly appreciated.
Kevin

Try pressing the fastener flat with a pair of pliers. The hole needs to be a fit smaller sometimes. I just installed my grill (reproduction) and that is what I did.

Get yourself some thread cutting nuts aka speed nuts from a good hardware store or auto body supply shop. That is what was used originally, use a nut driver to screw them on the studs. I think the pins are 1/8", not positive.

I used half inch peices of plastic tubeing from ace hardware.

Don't forget to put the spacers between the grille and the body of the car. I did not and have a slight dimple where each of the attachment points are. It made me sick after having a good original grille rechromed. One of restorations little lessons.

Spacers can be those lovely plastic washers at Ace Hardware.

I don't understand. How does putting a washer between the grill and the body help anything? How thick of washers are we talking about? Why use plastic instead of say stainless steel? I did put a rubber washer between the body and the top grill stud because I was worried about the the pointed part of the grill sticking into the bonnet and causing rust.

Keeps the edges from diging into the paint and causing rust, use just enough washer to give a bit of pressure off of the paint. Plastic as it will never ever rust like stainless and will have just a bit of give to it unlike stainless.
