Bugeye for sale that I checked out......

Recently I checked out a bugeye that a couple is looking into selling and opted to pass on it, but figured someone on here might be interested. The story is that the car is being sold by the second owners, and he is in early stages of Alzheimer's and realizing that he will never get it back on the road. It quit running around 40 years ago and was parked in the garage. Now that sounds appealing, but the car needs some help to repair the hackwork that was done. It has an Opal motor/transmission, and a rear end out of ?? The trans tunnel was hacked and enlarged, battery tray cut out, battery relocated in a custom box recessed in where the heater blower motor would reside, and the exhaust was routed out through the rocker and a hole was cut for this. Also, some sort of strange skid plate was welded to the frame rails, perhaps for reinforcement with the heavier motor??
The good is the bonnet is in very nice condition, as is the rest of the metal on the car. No rust. Obviously a full tear down and restoration is needed. $1800 for it. Good project for someone who has fabrication skills and won't have to outsource for it.
I told the couple I'd spread the word on the car, so if you are interested, PM me and I'll give them your contact info.

It's got all the goodies on it. The way I'd like Bugsy II to be. A much cheaper price than the other Supercharged BE on E-Bay right now. Bill wasn't some dealer trying for $40k plus? If so I need to buy stock in BE's.

Yaeh. A dealer in Oceanside wanted $42,500.There is a new listing for a partially restored 59 Bugeye on E-Bay this morning that looks interesting for somebody who wants to finish the restoration. I would suggest if you want to buy stock maybe you could do a hostile takeover of "Bugeye Guy"

I'd like to see what that 42k car ends up selling for at auction.

It has an Opal motor/transmission

Any idea which Opel engine? I think "Opel" makes us all think of the Opel GT.

Opel is a company with a very confusing history, I did a little googling this morning.

I believe it is out of a GT, after comparing pics of the valve cover to what I saw.

I looked that that one in pleasanton. Its okay, but misrepresented I think. The description is for a restored car, however the lower control arms were not removed prior to paint, and are most likely shot with shot bushings. I don't know, I get impression that on was done without the most care and thoroughness. But a deal compared to a dark red one in San Anselmo that has rust bubbles, needs bodywork, interior bits, and has a rattle canned engine bay for 12k.

The yellow one looks likes quick cover up to
paint over a rusty grille and rear bumpers. Agree on no upgrades done on front end, springs removed and painter in place. Not $14k IMHO. There was a fairly nice BE in Quebec last week that was a nice driver no sake at $6500 that did not meet reserve. Again not concours but definitely looked like a nice driver.

I did, offered him 10K, thinks its worth more.
