bugeye differential housing

Is a disc wheeled housing a different width than a whire wheel housing. I hoped I could simply change axles to go to wire wheels. A buddy said on some cars that even the rear housing cover plate mignt be different, but the housing was the same. So do I need to find a wire wheel housing, or am I worring about nothing. Wire wheels this summer are the plan. Thanks for the info. Jim

Yes, the housings are narrower on the wire wheel cars, by about an inch.
So, it's not just a matter of swapping axles. There were some bolt on wire kits for the disc wheel cars, that will work on a Bugeye, but if you are doing a square arch car, there are interference problems with the wheel arch. I had a set on the '63, and the inner lip of the arch had to be trimmed nearly completely away.
With a round arch, there should be no problem.
