Bugeye clutch

I have a 1960 bugeye that I need to replace the clutch. Question is, the VB catalog shows 2 different clutches for the 948 engine, one from 58-61 using engine 9cgh2139 and under and 61-62 using engine 9cgh2140 and up. My cars engine is 9c-u-h 41707. So which clutch do I need? Moss shows only one clutch for the entire 948 run. See my madness here? Any help can only lessen the number of grey hairs that this is giving me.
 
My experience with these 948 clutch covers is that one has 6 tension springs and the other has 9 tension springs. 9 springs being stronger than the 6 spring version. Maybe a bit more pedal effort, but not enough to worry about. Go with the 9 spring version. More $'s, but a better piece.

so it's not a fitment issue? either one will bolt on to either flywheel? I'm looking at a clutch kit on ebay that says it fits the earlier ones but again the engine number thing was throwing me for a loop. I guess if they are interchangeable I'll go with the ebay one and save about $150.
 
Just be sure that it is a 6-1/4" driven disk setup. The 948 used 6-1/4", the 1098 used a 7-1/4" and the 1275 used a 6-1/2" disk, all with a 7/8" x 10 spline center. There are after market kits for the coil spring type pressure plates that use the more modern configuration of a diaphram spring. There are a number of aftermarket and custom modified flywheels that were drilled to use the later 1275 type setup. Just make sure you are buying something that fits the flywheel and release bearing arm you have.

My experience with e-bay and parts for our cars is that it is a 50/50 roll of the dice as to whether the individual knows much of anything other than what they read in a parts book or a google search about what they are selling. Pictures and descriptions often don't match.

Back to my post. Yes, a 6/9 spring type pressure plate will fit all stock 948 flywheels from 58-62. The 9 spring type is better. A bit more pedal effort,but worth the extra exercise.

And so ends the grey hairs (yeah right), but at least the confusion about the clutches. Thanks so much for the help. The one on ebay is the diaphram type pressure plate but is the 6.25" disk for the 948. Thanks again for your help.
