Bugeye 1275 engine conversion questions

Reading the various postings, I have the impression that there is not much difference between restoring a 948 or a 1275 engine when it comes to cost. Is this an accurate statement? I have toyed with the idea of putting in a 1275. I have a few questions. What modifications are needed to switch from a 948 to a 1275, and how complicated is this to do? I have noticed on the forum that everyone with the 1275 engines has converted to disc brakes - is this a requrement, and why? Any downside to installing a 1275? All comments are appreciated.

I think when switching to a 1275, it is wise to switch to a ribcase (aka webcase, aka wafflecase) transmission.
Disc brakes? well if you are not planning on driving it hard, then the original drums would be fine. They just require more maintenance. The 1275 doesn't add significant mass that would necessitate discs, but it does permit the car to go faster than 72 mph.

The switch itself is fairly easy and there is plenty of support from people that have already made the switch. you'll need to add an electric fuel pump and change your exhaust, plus some other little things like getting the correct thermostat housing, etc.
 
I went with the disc brakes since I was going with a strongly built 1275 -- also put in a 3.9 rear end and rib case transmission. All those parts came on the donor car that gave up the 1275 as well.

The 1275 block I used ('74 Midget) actually did have the opening for a mechanical fuel pump, though I opted to switch to an electric one instead.
