Bugey Hardtop - NFI

The hard tops are nice (I have one with Penny, with the glass window) but ultimately I'm not really sure I'll ever actually use it. Nice idea, not as useful for a summer fun car.

Still, very neat to have. Would give us a matching set. :smile:
 
I have one that I haven't fitted yet. Bought for $150 with glass window but lots of fiberglass crazing. I was planning on fitting it and leaving it on the car. The early cars have a lot of wind buffeting and all my miles are hi-way miles so I prefer the later cars for top down.

I agree with what's been said. I love the look of a hardtop, and I like the idea of having one, but I'm not sure I'd really use it. I only drive my cars on warm, sunny days with the top down. The soft top comes along for the ride just in case the weather doesn't cooperate while I'm a long way from home. In the end, I'll probably pass on this and save my money for the ongoing restoration.
 
I learned something new today. I did not realize that the tops were numbered.
 
I almost bought one because it was in great shape and only $400. But it would never get used, and one more thing to clog up the one car garage.
 
My hardtop sits up on a storage shelf/loft in my garage, and will likely be there for a while. I have all the hardware including a new set of front latches (and yes, the factory tops are numbered, mine is 5753). Does need all new seals and a refresh -- like Bill W I'm nervous about removing the glass as it is essentially non-replaceable other than with Lexan or similar.

Still, I'll restore it someday.

It's numbered on one of the side mounting brackets if I remember correctly. Will have to check mine when I get home.

Well yeah, with a stock bugeye you can feel the difference after a big meal too.:laugh:
 
I removed the glass from both of the ones I have. It was very easy. I just cut the seal with a razor blade and lifted out the glass.

Good to know it's not that hard to do. It's on my list to get to, just not anytime soon. Need the rest of the car ready first. :grin:

I do admit that the hard tops look good. This is the day I brought Penny home.

I removed mine by simply undoing the final seal strip and pulling it out. The original strip is in good enough shape that I plan on reusing it. Do remember though that the glass is NLA!

My seals where trashed and I knew I was going to be storing the tops (which are in pretty rough shape) for some time. So I removed the glass to store them in a more secure and safe area.
 
I don't have a hardtop and not even sure I will replace the soft. That is if I ever do get around to finishing the Sprite. Just wondering though, is the rubber for the glass available?
 
I'm sure Mac Gregor has the window rubber but some of the other seal's may not be replaced with exactly the same. Body to glass rubber is still fairly common.
