Bugatti - question re valve jobs

This was prompted by the "Bugatti" thread.

Years ago, A Bugatti owner told me that "step 1" in doing a valve job is to remove the rear axle, at least on the model he had.

Logically it makes sense, with torque tube axle location and an integral cylinder head. You'd need to get the crankshaft out to get the pistons out, and to do that you just might need to start with the rear end.

This info isn't urgently needed, since I'm not facing a Bugatti valve job just now, but I'm curious and always forget to ask when I see one of these cars.

Does anyone know?

I think that may actually be the case, since I can't think of any way to get the crank and pistons out either...and I can't find my Bentley or Haynes manuals at the moment. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif

Will you be facing a Bugatti valve job in the future???? Can I take it for a spin?
