I am almost ready to install my transmission with one delay. The transmission is the side shift type used in Bn4
Bn6 Bn7 and and Bt7. Since the rubber or some other sort of hardened brittle material that is I belive to cushion the shift rods has deteriated and is not available in the Moss cataloge. I would like to know if anyone can suggest a material that I can utelize to fabricate a suitable replacement . It measures .060 in thickness as best I can measure. You can view this part in the moss cataloge at external 4 speed side shift. Thanks Bob

Hi Bob, Check at a plumbing supply for 4" square heavy duty DIY rubber gasket material, sometimes it can only be found in the red color use it at its originl thickness.--Fwiw--Keoke

Hi Bob,

I think the stuff that Keoke is talking about is called " plumber's packing " and you can buy it in packs at Ace hardware. I think they have both black and red. The thinner black material is what I cut out my gaskets that fit under the windshield wiper post nuts from. That material works a lot better than the stuff we get from our usual suppliers. The pack has a thick piece and a thinner piece. How is your car coming along ?

Keoke, Thats a good idea. Is it critical on the thickness or can I afford to be < or > than the .060 ? Thanks Bob

Just use the thickness that the individual sheets come in. They are ~ 1/8" thick and that seems to do the trick.---Keoke

Non padded self adheasive floor tile also works. The red stuff gets crushed and falls apart. Tried both. Just be sure not to get the self healing or padded tile. One tile will last a lifetime.

No BH, The material from plumbing supply houses is made of a Butyrate rubber and is virtually bullet proof. However, that tile suggestion is probably just as good a material to use and may be easier to come by---Keoke- /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/yesnod.gif

Keoke, I picked up a piece of the red butyrate rubber at the plumbers supply, looks like it will work great. It measures .055 and thats pretty close. The piece I purchased was about 1.25 " wide and was a 8.75" circle. cost $1.32.
Hi Ed, The cars coming along good. Once I get the transmission back in and get it on the ground I am about a days work out from primering the entire body. Thanks Bob

Anyone know where to source a good rubber boot for the clutch fork? The one I bought from Moss fell to pieces after 1.5 years on a car that only was driven maybe 2 miles..Thanks Bob

Just replace them when they go bad BR2. On initial installation coat them with a thin coat of Vaseline it helps a bit.--Keoke

Keoke,

Perhaps I did not get Butyrate.

How does butyrate do in a hot motor oil environment? I believe the original material was a fiborous material.

Wont even know its hot. This stuff is used by steam generating plant personnel as well as the oil field crews. ---Keoke
