BT7 turn signals

Folks,

One side of the brake switch override relay (turn signal flasher relay) on my BT7 words intermediately.
I have adjusted the air gaps with no luck.

At times, the armature does function, but the contacts will not stay engaged.
At other times, the armature just does not move.
In all cases, I can manually depress the armature and have functioning turn signals.

Any thought would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.
Ron

Make sure you have good, clean, tight connections on all connections such as trafficator, bottom of steering column, turn signal flasher, and the relay itself. Then in an operational test make sure you have good voltage at the relay coil terminals. Numbers 8 & 4. If that doesn't cure it is seems to me you are in for a new relay. Oh also make sure you have a good ground connection to the relay.

Hi Ron,

I would like to say it's an easy fix but, having experienced the same issue recently (early August 2018) and not been able to depend upon my 50+ year old unit, I rebuilt it by replacing the inners with (2) 8-pin relays. I would suggest you refer to the past thread "Directionals, Still a Pain" for experiences and details that should be very helpful in determining your approach to a resolution.

Presently, my directional are working perfectly and much brighter than with the original.

Good luck,
Ray(64BJ8P1)

I'd refer to Vette's drawing above and run a jumper directly from the hot side of the fuse box to the terminal in question. If it functions perfectly, the problem's in the wiring between the trafficator and flasher relay. If no different, then the problem's in the flasher relay.

Hi Ray.

I have had no success in resloving the turn signals.
I will checkout the other thread you mentioned and consider those options.

Thanks for the help.
Ron
