Brussels Sprouts on the Stalk

Been a while since I had 'em. The "fondu" idea has me salivating tho. But with REAL cheese, please.

Mmmmm Velveeta!

That stuff makes the best grilled cheese sandwiches. :yesnod:

The American "fried" cheese sandwiches? Maybe.... don't touch those myself. I don't see how anything that is fried in a pan could be called "grilled". :jester:

In the UK a grilled cheese sandwich means toasted bread with cheese melted on top, fewer calories and a better taste, especially if you use Red Leicester with a slice of tomato. Mmmmmm, yummy!

I used to love brussel sprouts as a kid until I got a worm in one at a restaurant. Haven't eaten them for about 50 years and don't think I ever will. [/QUOTE]

Now a days, a worm in your veggies means 100% organic and sells at a premium.

sheesh, you guys will fry anything! Guess you're getting the turkey pots ready right now.

personally, I like to steam my veggies and like them on the crunchy side. try doing that with okra - kinda reminds you of a really bad head cold.

As a matter of fact...

If you haven't had deep fried turkey, you've missed out! Fried in pure peanut oil, and nothing in the turkey but hot sauce and strained Italian dressing, injected throughout.

I'll be doing two or three for us, several for the Thanksgiving dinner at the church, then more for Christmas!

English cooking = burn it or boil it.

If anyone has read Robert Rankin, you will know that he holds the Sprout up on a pedestal.

You tell 'em, Mickey...we'll be doing the same!

James, don't worry. These heathens have never enjoyed a true Haggis.... Probably most have never enjoyed neeps or a good cock-a-leekie soup either.

In Oban, about a block inland from the main drag parallel to the waterfront there is a restaurant. A lot of tourists go there, but mostly locals. Ate there while on my Clan reunion in 96. One of the 10 best meals I've had in a foreign country.. So don't let 'em rattle your cage..

Is this what it looks like?

... burn it or boil it.

When frying, my Dad always said, "If it is smoking, it is just cooking. When it is on fire, it is done."

I loved em as a kid, but they have such a bad reputation that I never even tried to cook them for my kids until this past fall when I found them at the farmer's market on the stalk and really reasonable. The kids LOVED them! I just don't think about them often....We boil em with a little butter. MMMMMMM
