Brought home another Spridget today!

A 1964 Midget.

This is a very original example, I can use this to see what's incorrect about my other 64 Spridget.

There are a lot of great parts on the car, things I need for my MK II Sprite and things I can sell to keep other little cars on the road. This car has the 10CG engine and a ribcase transmission. BillM tells me my Sprite has a 948 Bugeye engine and smoothcase, and that's not correct so the 10CG (if it's good, and it does turn over and has some compression) will go in the Sprite and the 948 with smoothcase will eventually go to someone else.

The seats will get new foam & covers and go in the Sprite, the windshield will go on the Sprite and those NOS sidecurtains will also go on the Sprite.

BillM tells me the hard top that came with this car is for Bugeye's only. It's in good shape, needs all the rubber seals of course and could use some paint. It only weighs about 15 pounds!!
Bill thinks maybe it's a racing top because it's so light.

I need to sell the hardtop - I'm way over budget now and it's going to catch up with me if I don't sell some stuff.

I can use the chrome stuff from this car on my 78 Midget that's converted to CB.
Also the trunk lid will be nice on that car. If the bonnet is the nicest of the three I've got I'll get it painted and put it on the Sprite.

RickB,

Must be an addiction as I see multiple lawn tractors to go with multiple lbc's.

Don't recognise the top.

Haa Haa Haa, This one has the syndrome too !!!!!!!!  Opposite sides though.

hi rick. i see you have a plan. but on another subject, they were talking about the different fenders on cars that people put the later fender on older cars and you can see the turn signal on the drivers side is higher than the pass.
well it looks like your new midget has that problem . you said it was an original example. could this be a factory problem that " quality control"
missed

what do you guys say? bob

Bob,

I would think it's almost impossible. This subject comes up pretty regularly. The new style bumpers came out 5 or more years Rick's car was made. Likely a replacement due to a mishap. The rest of the car definately looks unmolested. sometime in the 70's or 80's. It is such a minor difference that a lot of people never realized there was a diff until pointed out. Just a guess, but I would think if you randomly filled a parking lot full of spridgets you would probably see it on 25% of them.

That pasenger side fender does not make any sense. On the later cars the lens placement is more to the outside of the fender and flat. The 64 and 65 which I have there is a molded mounting area like the driver side placement. I took a latter fender, filled the parking light side light hole then cut the bottom part off and replaced it with an earlier fender. This situation looks like someone possibly filled in a rusted out front parking light and reconstructed it below the original. The driver side is fairly rusty. There are lots of nice parts there.

Yes, well I think I actually haven't seen very many around here that didn't have the syndrome. When I get a chance I will take a look at the insides of those fenders and see if there was repair work done.

Yes - lot and lots of good parts, many I will use and some that will be used to replenish my shop building fund.

Man that hard top is light, I can easily carry it with one hand.

Wow - look at those side screens!

The guy across the street came over & said "hey, a little plywood on the floor & she's ready to go".

As much as I'd like to save the old girl, that's not the way.
I'll go and check my lotto ticket today, if I won then I'll restore her properly.
Otherwise - parts is parts.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Thanks, I turned 50 today.

Like our little cars, I'm showing signs of age but many parts are still highly functional and some could use a bit of care.

I've got to get out there and turn a few wrenches today, if nothing else get that nerf bar put on my 78 Midget. My niece backed into Frank last night, put out a headlight. If the nerf bar had been there she would have tapped it and that would have been all. Besides, I think that would look cool on Frank.

"The needs of the many out weigh the needs of the one."

Happy birthday, Rick! One more little car for you, eh... you're turning into the Tony of the west coast.

Thanks Drew, and that's quite a compliment but no -I'm not worthy!

BTW - if you haven't already then PM or email me with the items you are interested in from the 64 Midget. Some things have been requested, though nothing is 'sold'.
My address is:
rbastedo_gmail-com hopefully you can fill in the blanks.

So far here is the list of stuff I'm keeping:
the seats
windshield
bonnet (however if you need one I have several)
seat belts (maybe)
boot lid (however if you need one I have a good later model boot)
nerf bar
NOS side curtains & associated hardware
Grille & surround (have to decide if I want this one or the one currently on Frank, one will be available)
rear bumper mount covers
possibly some of the switches & gauges from the dash
the radio & speaker if it works
Probably a few bits & pieces under the bonnet that I need

I have a good passenger side replacement floor (light surface rust) for sale
(I think) 2 pairs side curtains that need new seals for sale

Here are items that are already on the list:

fuel gauge
wipers
Tail Lights
bumpers
Steering wheel
Hard Top

Here's my request, please help me with the values for the parts. I'll send you detailed pictures if you want. If you make a request and have an amount in mind that you would pay for it please just tell me.
I don't want to insult anyone or rip anyone off, but I can't afford to to give things away - (well maybe little things, but I've got to build a shop so I've got to recoup a bit).

Wow - that's the first one I've seen locally that doesn't have the front signal light syndrome. (does yours?)

Thanks for the nice thought, but that one is too nice for my budget.

My new one does, but the old black car did not, so I can correct the problem. Almost 5K seems like a lot, but looking at the condition with good paint, interior and decent looking engine, you couldn't restore one for that price. That is, as long as the engine doesn't have any major issues. Off for the first Healey tour, leaving Southcenter at 11 and headed out to Marymoor and Lk Sammamish area. too bad my car isn't ready....
