Hello, Need some help or suggestions, the four screws that hold the chrome plate around the shift boot to my '76B are all broken off! That's the way I got it from a PO. If I use a set punch,drill and an "easy out" will this work? Anybody had this problem before? Will something work better? Any help or suggestions would be great. is the chrome piece still in place/ If not, lots of WD-40 and a good vice grip wrench on what's left of the screw. otherwise, the method you described is your last resort, but it's not all that difficult.
 
If the heads are broken off leaving just the shafts and there is nothing sticking out out of the hole to grab onto with vice grips, you can probably force them out by frilling into the screws. The friction may screw them in farther until they drop out the bottom. If not, you will just drill through them until they disentigrate anyway. Unless I'm mistaked they are just machine screws into the sheet metal of the tunnel.
