I am sure everyone has had a pet pass but it has been a bad past 30 days. My daughter's dog which we rescued on my daughters 1st Birthday(she was tied along the road with no water or shade in July with a sign posted saying "take me or I will die here") passed away at the beginning of Feb. She was 14.5 and was a mean old sucker to any strangers to the house but the most loyal loving dog ever. My daughter does not ever remember sleeping in her room without her and she never let my daughter out of her sight even as they both became teens.
Today my best friend, my Boston Terrier Buford, the one on my sign in, passed away. He was 10 and was playing fetch and laid down could not get up and passed away in my arms. The little guy went every where with me, we would go for long rides in my TR8, kept my elderly mother company while I was at work and gave her company while I was deployed. He accompanied me from Pa to NJ, to GA, to Kansas. He was always able to sense when I was tired and jump into his navigator seat and kept me awake. When I had to go out late at night to solve some county crisis he would come and patiently wait in the truck as I worked. When the kids were home alone he stood guard and I never worried anyone woud make it into the house with out getting bit. WHen the kids went to their mom's house on the week end he spent many hours on the passager seat of my 8 supervising my maintenance. That is how he spent most of today
He had attended my kids elemetry school on bring your pet to school day for 5 years and was a regular at softball, baseball, track for the past 10 years, and he even managed to sneak into a few backetball games. When I was deployed and came home he literaly leapt into my arms when he saw me. He spent most nights bouncing between my bed and the kids beds, we always assumed just to make sure everyone was ok. We refered to it as Buford patrolling.
I am devestated. I will have another Boston soon. Thanks for a chance to clear some sadness from my heart
