We have one of the original Cuisinart food processors made in France by Robot-Coupe - a gift from Carl Sontheimer, founder of Cuisinart and a good friend and client. (Good story there). It has a plastic or nylon stem which cracked and made it difficult to remove the blades. The stems are no longer available. If anyone has an old Cuisinart machine with that stem and they are no longer using it, i would appreciate hearing about it as its a shame to have to throw out such a powerful machine and all the bowls, etc.

The stem on ours has broken also. I tried epoxy to "glue" it back together, but it hasn't held.

We bought a Cuisinart coffee maker about 17 years ago and it just went bad a few days ago. Luckily we found out that they still make the same model amongst all the newer ones. We decided to replace it with the exact model since it lasted so long. They make great products. 
I forgot to add, our coffee makers are turned on every day of the week, might be a few missing days, but 17 years is a long time. Little on the pricey side, but worth every penny!

That's not the part. They made a lot of changes through the years. I checked every source. There was another base with stem for $75 but - the stem was also cracked and that made for trouble getting the blades off. Just a bad design. New ones don't cost that much but I don't think they're as powerful or as sturdy.

So true. Our six-year-old Amana fridge went into hibernation the weekend before Christmas. Had an LG unit delivered that Tuesday. In sixteen months have had TWO "Mr Coffee" coffee makers fail to work. Got a Black & Decker to replace those. A "pleather" jacket purchased two years ago and worn MAYBE a total of two weeks, looked like it had developed leprosy. The fake leather coating peeling off the cloth material like a severe case of sunburn. Very disgusting, not to mention costly.

Yes, I had to replace a 10 year old GE fridge about 4 years ago because of a $2.50 part that was no longer available. Even the sales people tell you when shopping for a new one that it will only last about 7 years. Most seemed amazed that our old one lasted 10. Meanwhile, we have an old large GE now secondary unit that we bought when our 60 year old boys were teenagers. It still works perfectly but I suspect its annual cost of operation would pay for a new 7 year replacement.

Absolutely! That's when the things were all made in Pittsburgh, not the orient. Made to last a lifetime (or two).
