Broke Down Again !!

Nick:

The front end alignment shop is a 15 to 20 minute drive
from my home. I wanted to be sure the new front suspension
was installed properly to safely get me there.

I was just getting ready to switch out PDO Pedro's
busted hood latch when PDO Pedro's water pump failed.
I'm waiting upon the arrival of 3 each 5/16" by 24 thread
nuts so I can install the new water pump. I could not find
a local source.

Once again Basil's wonderful BCF forum bailed me out.
Paul dropped 3 water pump nuts in the mail for me this
morning. They Should arrive some time next week.

Thanks, Paul!!

Tinster, I have seen some of your work, it all looks nice and well done.Which plan is it we are betting on,the initial repair or the backup plan. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

I don't want to sound rude here, but do you honestly think that a 15 - 20 minute drive can be accomplished with-out a single break down? It may look different form your point of view but you haven't even come close to replacing all parts that can and will break-down. Even (especially??) the parts that dear Pedro has not touched.........

Jobster, we are talking Triumphs here, not Trabants. Its a known fact that Triumph tires were of good quality. Hence a redeeming factor.

Dale, I included three brand new shiny lock washers to go with the nuts

No extra charge.....

Well jobster, it's like this-

I got 48 miles between breakdowns the last go-around.

I now have two new fuel systems in the car, new suspension
all four wheels, a new water pump (soon), new hood latch
soon); new rear brake system including pipes and rear whee
cylinders, new sway bar links and bushes and refurbished
front wheel bearings.

Do I "honestly think" the car will get me the 9 miles to
the front end alignment shop?

Yeah, I think this is gonna happen.

Here's a partial list of DPO Pedro parts I have already
replaced. Not much left to break down.

Ah, now I see where you're coming from. But you forget the most important thing to get things going. Yep, the engine. you have done NOTHING on that part looking at your list. And what about the wipers, these didn't look too well from earlier photo's or doesn't it rain in PR.
Not trying to make fun here, just curious for your threshold since I would have not gone thru as many effort as you did. But funny it is to be honest

Jobster, I see by your # of post your fairly new to Dale's woes, Check the archives, should give you at least a week of good reading.

Jobster-
In the interests of international diplomacy,
I will assume English is not your native tongue
and it is not your intention to come across as
the piece of papel sanitario you appear.

tinster

Jeez Dale, aren't you getting a little touchy? Jobster joined the forum less than 30 days ago, he is unaware of your incredible saga of tenacity and frustration. That shot at his command of the English language was entirely uneccessary.

Mark,

In fairness to Dale, maybe this wasn't a good time to be ribbing him about what he has or hasn't replaced on the car. That's not what we're about here.

I'm sure that neither Jobster or Dale meant any ill will. Perhaps it was simply timing.

JMHO

Dale, I'm breaking up 2 TR6's, they were bad, but the firewalls are good except the battery box. Tell me where you need me to cut one out for you and I'll sent it out. That's if the rust is so bad on yours it's a problem.

Wayne

Thanks Wayne,

Greatly appreciated. I stripped my firewall 3 days
ago and found probably what you have. Decent metal
on both ends with some bondo filling small holes.

The center section (battery) had been cut out and a
moderately decent job of fiberglass installed. The
battery will cover the irregularities of the fiberglass.

My car will never be a show car so the glass doesn't
bother me all that much.

My goal is end up with a go-car.

Thanks again for the offer. I'll post a photo when
I get my firewall sorted out.

best regards,

dale

Dale, glad you have good metal were the release bits go, be sure and get a plastic battery box, not only for acid but for that little bit of extra support. A boat battery box will work fine, just cut it down to look like the AMCO one and you can get it in some wild colors, (right up you alley). HA.

Wayne

Dale,
Compared to my engine compartment, yours looks immaculate already. I can't imagine how good it will end up once you have finished. Looking forward to the pictures.
Nick

Dale how are you appling the paint to your engine compartment?

brush, spray...?

are you removing the engine?

Ooooohhhhh. I can see that I am going to have to spend some time smartening up my engine compartment this weekend. I can't let the BCF down with my scruffy car any more!
