British Racing Green on a '60 BT7

Just signed up as a new member and love seeing all the info. on Healeys. Finished a ground up restoration on a '54 BN1 in 2002. Carmine Red w/ red interior and top. Must be crazy, but started another restoration on a '60 BT7. Am almost done with the chassis and must decide on a color. The car was Ivory White w/ Black interior but I'm leaning towards British Racing Green. I read in the Anderson/Moment book and the Clausager book that there were a couple production cars in BRG after Healey had a version of BRG on his Works cars at Sebring in early 1960. Does anyone know what this version of BRG would have been. Since GN25 didn't come out until '63 and GN29 came after that could it have been something else, like the green used on the 100-S? Also I'm also wondering about the interior. Since the cars had contrasting piping and since I'll have an Ivory White hardtop I guess the proper interior would be black w/ white piping. Would appreciate any information or thoughts on this.

Thanks alot and glad to be aboard.

Kurt

Kurt,

Welcome aboard. As I recall, Roger Moment established that exactly ONE 3000 Mark I (a BT7) left the factory in BRG. He subsequently painted his that color. He has since sold the car, but Roger doesn't do anything casually or half-heartedly. I'd recommend you contact him directly for advice in which BRG he used: rmoment@comcast.net

Roger made the interior of his BRG BT7 "gray" which is a parchment/putty color. The Concours Guidelines would be informative for weighing your interior color options. To buy a copy of the Guidelines, contact George Marinos, 105 Thornbury Avenue, Glen Rock NJ 07452; gmari@optonline.net; (201) 445-3124.

Good luck.

Reid,

Thanks for the info and the 2 e-mail addresses. I'll definately have to contact Roger. That's interesting that he did one that color. I contacted him several years back when I was restoring my '54 100-4 and he was very helpful. He helped me with the proper dash color for a car that is red w/ red interior and top and the proper direction of the rows in Karvel carpet.

Thanks again!

Kurt

Hi Kurt welcome!
I too am a new member and also am in the process of restoring a 55 bn1. Do you have any pics of your 54 to post here or email me? I am considering painting mine in red.
Dennis

Hi Dennis,

Thanks. I'm a little new at this but I will try to attach a photo of the 54 Healey. We color matched a spot on the underside of the front shroud. What we came up with that matched the closest was 1988 Ford Bright Red. We used that on the chassis. I had someone else paint the body who used PPG paints and used a paint computer (spectrometer???) to match that color exactly. I've had many complements on the color.

Kurt
