British Car Owner Again

Hello BCF. I am officially a British Car owner again. Had TR3s at university and E Type Roadster after then have been many years with Porsches and AMG GTs. A few years back I bought a Birkin and now an Elva Courier - > 1964 Elva Courier Mk4 T-Type < . So will be looking for wisdom from the MGB people, TVR folks, and maybe some others as to some degree this car has a bit of the parts bin (if I am wrong let me know).

great car! Unusual too. so ummm how tall are you? 😁

6'3" 200#, But have been managing to fit into formula cars for years. As a crew chief SCCA, IMSA in the '80s got license and tested a lot of cars. Manage in our Lotus 7. No problems at all with Porsche 550 Spyder or 356 Speedster. Only difficulty with Lotus 7 initially was peddle spacing and foot box size.

Admittedly my daily drivers are AMG SLS / GTs or Porsche 911 variant of the day.

I guess if memory serves Formula V and Formula Ford standard size chassis were the worse mostly foot box and knee room. Original GT40 also could not get comfortable with dash bulkhead clearance even with just mats for seats.

Welcome aboard, Mac! The "comments" section on BaT is interesting. The MGB 1.8 (I will assume it to be an 18GB five-main engine) is rather rock-proof, the three synchro gearbox a bit less so. No shifting down into first or reverse unless the car is at a dead stop, you'll lunch it otherwise. If you're hearing a "sizzle" from the box, it may be laygear shaft bearings. Lotus 7? Marvelous! I've wrenched on Porsches (trained at Lanham, MD) in the days before water, but always owned MGB's and Lotus cars. ACBC (along with J. Clark) was a childhood hero.

BTW: One of our BCF members, Michael Oritt, campaigns an Elva.

And the one you've acquired looks like a great choice for an ice cream getter on summer days! Congrats! Hope you stick around!

Michael Oritt... may need your advice on my '64 IV. Most all my experience is in German cars. Only racing was with 356 Speedster and some motorcycles. Cheers.

Were you by the way at the historic races at Watins Glen this weekend?
