It's a very interesting concept, and a beautiful shape. However, I sure hope that they've designed some downforce tunneling in the undertray....the profile looks very much like an airfoil.

The point to a speed record design is to minimize drag as much as possible. Many aerodynamic details seen on road racing cars give huge downforce to maximize cornering ability but do so at the expense of incurring more drag. Their goal is to get the lowest lap times even if straight-line top speed suffers a bit.

These guys are obviously very, very good engineers. I have every confidence that they have designed in enough downforce and stability for safety while keeping overall drag within their design budget.
