Bringin' home more junk

Going back for a couple of weeks in the fall to Woman Lake MN where the photo is from. Most resorts give you a fishing boat, I ask for the smallest one and thats our speedboat. Motor rental paid for both motors a long time ago.

We have a'56 Johnson 5 1/2 and that thing screams. I outran two rednecks in a '14 flat w/ an Evinrude 18. 'Course I weighed 85 pounds and had a 12' boat at the time.

Just saw an article on Mercury and their reputation in the late 50's which was "they are fast but do not last." So they ran a 60 hp around a 5 1/2 mile lake course in Florida non stop... for a month. Driver and fuel changes on the fly. It covered 25,000 miles, ie around the world. Thats a long time to listen to the racket an outboard makes.
