I comment on BaT pretty frequently, especially about the Healey offerings. I actually like the registration. Before, you used to have to enter a username and email address for every comment, now you don't have to do that. OTOH, I have to agree that some of the underground charm of BaT is getting lost in the revenue producing efforts, like the paid "Exclusive" listings. I guess it's the price of success.
 
You can view any site, but to comment, you should be registered! Reason, it keeps the site cleaner, keeps the crud balls out and makes it easier for the site to be monitored and flag anyone who doesn't conform to the rules. This site is monitored very well and I think it's great! I belong to a couple other sites that you have to register and those sites are well monitored also. There are sites out there I wouldn't even go to because of the disrespectful people on them. Plus, who many posters use undesirable language as the sites are not monitored, the site owners don't give a hoot and neither do the posters. JMHO. PJ

There is no way in hades I would open BCF to unregister people commenting on this forum. The result would be a disaster.
 
To TRY & make it clear - you used to have to provide an e-mail address,
but now you have to go back to your email,& respond,before you can post.
Randy has the right to delete unfavorable (& spam) emails,& can do so
at any time.
My point was that it WAS simple - but now it's not.As for me,I've deleted
it from my bookmarks,& will no longer check it daily.

Doug, the reason for that "double entry" stuff is simple. Anyone can give any fake email address. They send an email with final instructions to verify the address before you can post. Most people just wanting to "scumbag" to site won't go to that extra effort. It really does help to keep it clean and enjoyable for legit users. I don't mind but you do as you want of course.
 
That email confirmation is just when you first create your new account, not on every posting. As Bayless points out, it's a common method of helping to insure that the new account belongs to a real person. Once you have the account, you just sign in and you can post, no emails required.

Certainly if BAT is not enjoyable for you than you can move on. Me, I don't find the changes burdensome at all, and wish them all possible success.
 
Only pain in the neck thing about some sites and I agree with what their doing, but not how their doing it. The coded box that you have to fill out by placing the letters and numbers in a box to prove you are a real person, but some sites scramble them so bad and the print is so poor, it's near impossible to read them and figure out what the code is. I couldn't figure one sites codes as they were so scrambled and I contacted the sites owner and asked if there was a clearer code symbol, he responded by saying, if you can't read what's up there, you don't belong on this site! Can you imagine that! Needless to say, I told him what he could do with his site and where to park it! Believe it or not, it was an auto related site. :rolleyes: PJ

Coming late to the party, I guess I didn't really even think about the registration thing, most every site you can post to or participate in has a similar set up these days, my only complaint is trying to remember my userid and password for all of them, because my dumputer will eventually "toss its cookies" and forget the password, and different sites have different rules, character, numeral, symbol needed etc.

Bring a Trailer is a fun site, but it is more and more a sellers market unless you can find someone with a nice car they are willing to part with without marketing it, because everything gets so much national exposure on the interweb these days.
