Randy,if you're reading this - please go back to your roots,
when money didn't drive everything.

Don't see having a good idea, then marketing it and having it grow into a unique (and profitable) enterprise as selling out. My hat's off to him, I love the format. Reading BAT's daily emails (and the comments) are an enjoyable part of my day.

Who's Randy? PJ

Dang it
To much Catholicism in my back ground

Not former.

And I was ordained; not neutered.

You should have put a warning before your post...I nearly choked on my water when I read it. At least it cleared my sinuses when it went up my nose. Funniest line on this forum ever.

I'll admit that you touched a bit of a nerve with me here -- I wouldn't normally respond, but I've been thinking about this issue lately anyways for other reasons.

First off, I hate this notion of "selling out." Running a website is expensive and massively time consuming. One that gets the traffic that BAT gets is even more so. For most folks, if that site can't make money then it can't continue. Ask Basil if you doubt this. If the site stays a quality experience then folks will stay. Making people sign in is normal these days, and does cut down on comment spam and other issues that take time for the site admins to manage.

As a semi-professional musician (I play professionally -- meaning I get paid to do it -- but I do have a day job) I have no problem at all with folks who take their passion and make a living at it. If the latest teen idol/pop thing called me and wanted to pay me a large amount of money to back them on a tour, I'd take it. Starving for your "passion" just leaves you hungry and doesn't pay the mortgage.

So my hat's off to BAT if the folks running it can make some money. Means it's more likely to continue.

Can't take full credit. One of my mentors said that to me long ago and it was most liberating. I think most folks here know I don't take myself all that seriously. And life's way too short not to have fun... as long as you don't step on others' toes in the process.

Friar Tuck and I would've been fast friends, for sure!

Good one Mickey - the ordained not neutered comment.

My point was that I enjoed it being an "underground" site-
most posts there by "gearheads".You didn't have to register to
post your views on the cars mentioned.
They also charged for the "Exclusive" listings, which I understand.
My point was, that you have to register to make a comment, not just to
bid on the featured cars.
I have no problem with registering on the bidding part,& never will,
as all of the listings seem to be to be out of my financial reach.
Drew,

I hope that you'll understand my thinking.
