Hello Vette,

a halogen lamp for the same rating as a standard tungsten lamp draws the same current, but is designed and built to run hotter giving a brighter light, in other words better efficiency.

Thanks Alec, you know the next thought in my troubled little mind is how many extra amps can these delicate circuits take. Obviously we can figure it out. But, Given the low ampere rating of the generators and the variable size of batteries in use today, one needs to be aware of how much increased electrical load we might be putting on the electrical system of the Healey. Now if you went to an alternator and the wiring harness is in good shape then, probably no problems.

Hi Alec,
The problem is that very few small Halogen lamps DO have the same ratings as the Tungsten lamps. They are often rated much higher wattage.

TH,
The Halogen lamps that I have tried, run a lot hotter. Too hot for the small holders & lenses in my estimation. Definitely too hot if any plastic is close by. As was said, they really light up your feet. The gages were just not built for high illumination inside.
